What’s new in Melophrase?

This month we’ve been polishing the app so learning with music feels smoother, clearer, and a little more rewarding. Here’s what’s landed recently.

A cleaner, more reliable Android experience

  • Self-hosted fonts so typography stays sharp even offline or in the native app
  • White splash screen for a fresher launch
  • Shorter “Start Learning” button for a tighter home layout
  • Create Playlist dialog updated to a light theme that matches the rest of the app
  • Release builds bumped through 1.1.5 → 1.1.6 for Play Store updates

Streaks and progress that actually match your listening

Daily and weekly tracking is more accurate:

  • Streaks use your local calendar day (no more timezone quirks)
  • Current and longest streak pull from real goal history
  • Progress shows this week listening time correctly, plus a quieter all-time stats row underneath

Hit your daily goal more than once? You’ll see x2, x3, and so on — now right in the weekly day circles, where the checkmark used to be.

And when you’re on a streak of 2+ days, the streak cards get a soft shine animation on load — a small celebration without clutter.

Melophrase Radio, in the language you’re learning

Radio stations now use native-language names, including:

Rádio Portuguesa (Europeia)

European Portuguese is live. Other languages show as coming soon until content is ready. We also fixed language matching so Portuguese albums (including tags like “Portuguese” / “Português”) correctly unlock the European station instead of wrongly appearing unavailable.

Settings polish

  • Row hovers are rounded for a softer feel
  • Language picker is a single-column list — easier to scan on mobile

Under the hood: more reliable daily listening

We strengthened how daily listening goals are calculated and stored, including a safer database setup and a client-side fallback so progress keeps updating even if the server function isn’t available yet.
