1. Introduction

Melophrase (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides a language-learning service through music: CEFR-aligned bilingual tracks, time-synced lyrics, and an AI track generator, available on our website and app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you use our services.

2. Data we collect

Account and profile data: When you register, we collect your email address and password (stored securely by our authentication provider). During onboarding or in your account settings we may collect: full name, username, preferred language, proficiency level, daily practice goal, motivation, and profile picture (avatar).

Authentication and session data: Our systems store session and auth tokens so you can stay signed in. This may include identifiers stored in your browser or device.

Usage and technical data: We may collect information about how you use the service (e.g. which pages or features you use) and technical data such as device type, browser, and IP address where necessary to operate and secure the service.

Cookies and similar technologies: We use cookies and local storage as described in our Cookie Policy. Your cookie consent choice is stored locally in your browser.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to: provide and operate the Melophrase service (including authentication, profile management, and delivery of music and lyrics); personalise your experience (e.g. language and level); process subscription or payment where applicable; improve our services and fix issues; and communicate with you about your account or the service where necessary.

We process this data on the basis of: performing our contract with you (account and service delivery), your consent where we ask for it (e.g. optional preferences or marketing), and our legitimate interests (security, analytics to improve the product, and legal compliance) where applicable.

4. Sharing and international transfers

We use Supabase for authentication, database (e.g. user profiles), and storage (e.g. avatars, audio, and lyrics). Supabase acts as a data processor on our behalf. Our checkout and payment processing for subscriptions and one-off purchases (e.g. annual, monthly, or lifetime plans) are powered by Lemon Squeezy. When you complete a purchase, Lemon Squeezy collects and processes payment and billing data (such as email, payment method, and billing address) according to their Privacy Policy. We receive order and customer information from Lemon Squeezy to fulfil your subscription and provide access to the service.

We may use analytics or advertising partners only where you have accepted non-essential cookies; such partners may receive technical or usage data as described in our Cookie Policy. We do not sell your personal data.

Our service providers may store or process data in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK. Where we do so, we ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions) are in place.

5. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: access your personal data; rectify inaccurate data; erase your data (“right to be forgotten”); restrict processing; data portability; object to certain processing; and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You can manage your account and profile from the account settings on our website. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country.

6. Retention

We retain your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. After you delete your account or ask for erasure, we will delete or anonymise your data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business purposes (e.g. resolving disputes or enforcing our terms).
